Jizai Launches Early Access Sales of "Palmimo DevKit," a Tabletop AI Robot That Gives AI Agents a Body

Initial units for Early Builders and Early Partners. Software to be progressively open-sourced, building a co-creation platform that advances Physical AI talent development and real-world deployment

Jizai Inc. (Headquarters: Bunkyo-ku, Tokyo; Representative Director and CEO: Yuki Ishikawa; hereinafter “Jizai”) announces that, starting September 3, 2026, it will begin early access sales of the “Palmimo DevKit,” a tabletop development kit for its customizable general-purpose AI robot “Palmimo” (formerly Mi-Mo), to Early Builders and Early Partners. Jizai will also progressively release the software as open source as it develops the Palmimo DevKit into an open co-creation platform product.

What Is the Palmimo DevKit?

The Palmimo DevKit is a tabletop development kit that lets users customize and operate Palmimo, a general-purpose AI robot that thinks and acts autonomously, with their own code. Palmimo is an interactive companion that makes eye contact, responds to voices, and communicates through expressions and gestures. Its autonomous loop of “seeing, hearing, thinking, speaking, and moving” is designed to be controlled with just a few lines of Python, without requiring hardware expertise.

Key Features

  • Even without robotics expertise, users can call motions such as waving, walking, or turning its head with a single Python command (e.g., robot.wave()).
  • A bundled AI agent implementation connects LLM tool calls directly to robot actions. The AI model serving as its brain can be replaced.
  • Software will be progressively released as open source. Users can connect their own data and services through APIs, MCP, and SDKs and help develop an open co-creation platform product together.
  • Simulation environments and other development tools for robot learning will also be rolled out progressively, providing software engineers with an entry point into Physical AI.
  • A design with the warmth of wood that blends into people’s living spaces.

Custom services delivered alongside Jizai team members—including custom AI, software, and hardware support and hands-on training—are also available with individual quotations.

An Open Co-Creation Platform

The Palmimo DevKit aims to become an “open co-creation platform product” where companies, engineers, and researchers bring together technologies, assets, and business challenges to openly develop new robot use cases. As the foundation for this effort, Jizai plans to provide it as open source in principle.

Alongside the launch of early access sales, Jizai will first progressively release the software—including the Python SDK, drivers, and AI agent implementation—as open source. The scope of release will then expand to simulation environments and the broader software stack for development. Early access customers will receive hardware-related information in advance.

Background: Why Physical AI and the Palmimo DevKit, and Why Now?

Following generative AI and AI agents, momentum is accelerating worldwide toward “Physical AI”—AI that has a body and acts in the real world. The number of software engineers interested in hardware and robotics will continue to grow, along with the open robots and development tools that support them, but many of these currently originate outside Japan.

Jizai developed the Palmimo DevKit as an AI robot designed and developed in Japan because it wants software engineers without robotics or hardware expertise to experience the excitement of making a robot move with their own code. Advancing Physical AI requires increasing the number of people who can work with both software and hardware. The Palmimo DevKit is both an entry point for developing talent for Physical AI and a tool for advancing its real-world implementation.

Potential Use Cases

  • AI companion and human-robot interaction research
  • Proofs of concept for reception, guidance, and spatial experiences in offices, stores, and exhibitions
  • AI agent experiments that connect LLM tool calls to physical behaviors, as well as robot-learning experiments such as Sim2Real and VLA fine-tuning
  • Physical AI talent development at companies and universities, including hands-on training, internal study sessions, and laboratory experiment platforms
  • Designing new services through multi-robot coordination and API integration with proprietary data and systems

Our Journey and What Comes Next

Since its debut at CES 2025 in January 2025, Palmimo has been presented at events including the United Nations’ AI for Good Global Summit 2025 and Cannes Next at the Cannes Film Festival. It is currently available as an interactive exhibit in “A Day in the Future,” a Tokyo Metropolitan Government exhibition at Tokyo Mirai Park inside Miraikan, through September 23, 2026.

Jizai will progressively expand the number of units and organizations it serves while incorporating feedback from Early Builders and Early Partners into the product and its open source development.
